HAIKOU, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- The foreign trade volume of south China's island province of Hainan exceeded 84.9 billion yuan (12.5 billion U.S. dollars) in 2018, up 20.8 percent, Haikou customs said Tuesday.
The province's export volume totaled 29.8 billion yuan, up 0.7 percent, while the import volume reached 55.1 billion yuan, with an increase of 35.4 percent over the previous year.
The island's trade with countries along the Belt and Road reached 31.9 billion yuan, accounting for 37.6 percent of Hainan's total. The imports and exports to India, Egypt and Turkey increased by 51.7 percent.
ASEAN member states, the United States and the European Union remained the province's top three trading partners.
In terms of exports, refined oil products dominated with a volume of 12.25 billion yuan, or 41.1 percent. As for imports, aircraft played a leading role with a volume of over 20 billion yuan.
