DHAKA, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury was sworn in on Wednesday as the speaker of Bangladesh's Parliament for the third consecutive term.
President Abdul Hamid swore in her shortly after she was elected at the beginning of the first day of the session of the 11th national parliament on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's ruling Bangladesh Awami League's general secretary proposed Chaudhury for the position of speaker.
Following the Dec. 30 national elections last year, Hasina's Awami League has formed its straight third five-year term government since January 2009.
