COLOMBO, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's Excise Department seized 110 kilograms of heroin with a street value of 6.2 million U.S. dollars from two locations in Colombo, an official said on Tuesday.
Sri Lankan Deputy Commissioner of Excise Kapila Kumarasinghe told Xinhua that the officers of his department seized the stock of heroin from two Colombo suburbs named Wellawatte and Piliyandala.
He said the stock was a brown sugar type heroin, and two suspects were also arrested along with it.
"Our excise officers suspect that the heroin stock has been smuggled into the country via sea routes," he said.
Sri Lankan police arrested five persons on Jan. 22 along with 90 kilograms of heroin with a street value of 5.5 million U.S. dollars in the Colombo suburb called Kollupitiya.
Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena launched a drug eradication week in January covering all national schools across the island country to prevent drug menace.
