BEIJING, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- China's major stocks indices closed higher on Wednesday, with the agricultural sector surging.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went up 0.2 percent to finish at 2,761.22 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.39 percent higher at 8,473.43 points.
The combined turnover of stocks in the two indices stood at 499.2 billion yuan (about 73.89 billion U.S. dollars), down from 605.8 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Shipbuilding and agricultural sectors were among the biggest winners, with the sub-indexes up 4.13 percent and 3.4 percent respectively.
China published its No.1 central document in 2019 on Tuesday, prioritizing the development of agriculture and rural areas for 16 consecutive years.
The news boosted shares in the agricultural industry. Hainan Shennong Gene Technology Co., Ltd surged by the daily limit of 10 percent to end at 3.04 yuan per share.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.17 percent to close at 1,408.38 points.
