HAVANA, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- A military fighter crashed on Tuesday about 50 km southwest of Havana, said the island's Ministry of Armed Forces (MINFAR).

No casualties have been reported and a commission is already on the site to investigate the causes of the accident, according to a MINFAR release.

The incident took place at around 11:00 a.m. local time (1600 GMT) when "a MiG 21 aircraft of the Revolutionary Air Force precipitated to land, due to technical problems, just outside the municipality of Guira de Melena, province of Artemisa, during a combat training exercise," said the statement.

The pilot of the fighter jet is in "good health condition" after he ejected safely out of the Russian-made plane, it said.

Social media users have posted photos of parts of the plane, particularly the ejected pilot's seat as well as parachutes.

The last accident of a Cuban military plane occurred in April 2017 in the same province of Artemisa, when an An-26 aircraft crashed into Loma de la Pimienta, in the municipality of Candelaria, leaving eight soldiers dead.
