RAMALLAH, March 4 (Xinhua) -- The Executive Committee of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) slammed on Monday the United States for closing its consulate in Jerusalem.
"The closure of the U.S. consulate in Jerusalem and merging it with its embassy in Israel is a violation of the resolutions of international legitimacy that Washington contributed to drafting it," an official PLO press statement said.
It added that "the peace process has to be revived throughout an international peace conference attended by the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council."
In the light of the closure of the U.S. consulate in Jerusalem, the PLO decided to carry on with its decision of stopping political ties with the U.S. administration and its representatives.
The PLO warned the Palestinian personalities, institutions and organizations of violating the decision.
The Palestinian Authority is boycotting the U.S. since the declaration of U.S. President Donald Trump in December 2017 which considered Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moved his country's embassy to Jerusalem in May last year.
Since Trump's declaration, the Palestinians are calling for a new international mechanism to sponsor the peace talk with Israel, which stopped in 2014 after the U.S. sponsored it for nine months without reaching any breakthrough.
