1 civilian killed, 5 injured as mortar mine hits house in northern Afghanistan

MAIMANA, Afghanistan, March 26 (Xinhua) -- One civilian lost her life and five others sustained injuries after a mortar mine fired by militants struck a house in Shirin Tagab district in northern Faryab province Monday, provincial police spokesman Abdul Karim Yurash said Tuesday.

"Militants affiliated with the Taliban group fired mortar mine Monday afternoon and the device struck a house next to a bazaar in Shirin Tagab district, killing a woman and injuring five others, all from the same family," Yurash told Xinhua.

Taliban militants operating in parts of Faryab province with Maimana as its capital over the past decade haven't commented on the report.
