HO CHI MINH CITY, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Police and border guards of Vietnam's southern An Giang province have busted a transnational drug trafficking ring, detaining five local people who transported synthetic drugs from Cambodia to the province.
The police and border guards have also confiscated over 30 kg of synthetic drugs, including 17.8 kg of crystal methamphetamine, one kg of ketamine and 31,850 pills of ecstasy, the biggest-ever amount of drug seized in An Giang, Vietnam News Agency reported on Sunday.
The detainees include a 29-year-old man from central Khanh Hoa province, a 41-year-old man from An Giang, and three people from Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also faces death penalty.
