NAIROBI, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Kenya will not send a team to the Africa Nations Beach Volleyball Cup, which will be held in Abuja, Nigeria from Wednesday.

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) said that the lack of funds and poor preparations is to blame for Kenya not sending any team to the continental tournament.

Waithaka Kioni, KVF president, said they will instead focus on helping the senior women's team win the ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

"We have a huge Intercontinental Olympic qualifying tournament which sets for August in Italy," said Kioni on Tuesday.

"We have our focus on it and we have to sacrifice the Africa Beach Volleyball Cup, though it is also important," he added.

Kenya will face Italy, who finished second at the World Championships, the Netherlands and Belgium in the Olympic qualifiers, which will be played in Italy from August 2 to 4.
