TEHRAN, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Esteghlal FC has appointed Farhad Majidi as head coach until the end of the season, Tasnim news agency reported on Monday.
43-year-old Majidi replaces Winfried Schaefer, who left following poor results in the Iran Pro League and AFC Champions League.
"In the wake of recent defeats in the Iran Pro League, and for also not using the club's facilities, Winfried and his son Sascha Oliver Schafer have been suspended from all activities until the end of the season," Esteghlal revealed in an announcement on Monday.
"There has been growing dissatisfaction among Esteghlal's fans and officials, and the board of directors appointed Farhad Majidi as the team's interim coach until the end of the season," continued the statement.
