BEIJING, May 5 (Xinhua) -- China's National Cultural Heritage Administration (NCHA) on Sunday announced the events to be held to mark International Museum Day, which falls on May 18.
Hunan Museum in central China will host the main event as well as a special joint exhibition on the roots and spirit of the Chinese civilization.
Other museums across China will also launch special activities around the theme of "Museums as Cultural Hubs: The Future of Tradition," according to the NCHA.
Guan Qiang, deputy director of the agency, said the activities will focus on the functions and roles of museums in cultural inheritance, and museums are expected to promote the creative transformation and innovative development of China's fine traditional culture.
Through the activities, museums can contribute to promoting exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations, and to the harmonious development of the society, said Guan.
