BANGKOK, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Princess Ubolratana has been granted a first-class medal of honor by His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn.
The conferring of Ratanaphorn First Class medal in the reign of King Rama X to Princess Ubolratna was publicized in the Royal Gazette on Thursday.
The grant of the king's medal has been attributed to the princess's activity involving public health, social welfare and education which has been enormously beneficial to the young generations, people and country, the Royal Gazette says.
Princess Ubolratana, the eldest daughter of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and elder sister of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, had been unsuccessfully named candidate for post-election prime minister by the dissolved Thai Raksa Chart (Thais save nation) Party in February, 2019, but the monarch promptly called off such surprise bid.
In a Royal Announcement, the king cited royal tradition and law as saying all members of the Royal Household should remain uninvolved and neutral in politics and concluded that the princess is invariably viewed as one though she had relinquished all of her royal titles about half a century ago.
