TIANJIN, May 15 (Xinhua) -- More than 80 self-driving vehicle teams from home and abroad are participating in the third World Intelligence Driving Challenge from Wednesday to Saturday in north China's Tianjin Municipality, according to the municipal government.

Focusing on the driving challenges of unmanned vehicles, the competition is divided into three series, including self-driving, information security and virtual scenes, said Li Wei, vice general manager of China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd., one of the organizers of the event.

Self-driving vehicles will be evaluated in various simulated road conditions, including expressways, and roads in the village and city.

The number of participating teams formed by enterprises has increased year by year, as intelligent driving technology has moved from labs in universities and academic institutions to the market.

As a part of the World Intelligence Congress held between Thursday and Sunday, the annual event has been held for three years in a row in Dongli District, Tianjin.
