BISHKEK, May 22 (Xinhua) -- The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) today has taken place as a unique international association for interaction and the development of mechanisms for cooperation in various fields, Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov said Wednesday.
Jeenbekov made the remarks during a meeting of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers, attended by foreign ministers of SCO member states, according to the president's press service.
"This is not just a declaration, but a real principle of mutual trust, equality and respect. The Kyrgyz side considers multilateral cooperation within the framework of the SCO as one of the priority areas of foreign policy," Jeenbekov said.
The president vowed to "further strengthen cooperation in the political sphere, increase security, and intensify the trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian component of the SCO."
During its rotating presidency of the SCO, Kyrgyzstan focused on the development of the practical component of the partnership, including spheres of politics, economics, security, cultural and humanitarian ties, as well as promotion of inter-parliamentary cooperation, said Jeenbekov.
He added that the objectives of the SCO Qingdao Summit last year are "systematically implemented."
The ministers also expressed confidence that the upcoming Bishkek Summit would strengthen the interaction of the countries and give new impetus to multilateral cooperation in all spheres.
