NEW DELHI, May 22 (Xinhua) -- An Indian army trooper was killed and two others wounded Wednesday in a blast during a training activity in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said.

The blast took place inside an army post at Mendhar sector of frontier Poonch district, about 180 km southwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"Today in the morning during a training activity on a military post here three troopers were wounded, one of them critically, during a blast," a senior army official said. "Later on the critically wounded trooper succumbed to his wounds."

According to the official the two wounded troopers were immediately removed to the nearest military hospital.

Officials said the blast was "accidental" in nature and occurred due to mishandling.

Indian-controlled Kashmir is considered as one of the highest militarized regions in the world.

A guerilla war is also going on between militants and the Indian troops stationed in the region since 1989. Gunfight between militants and stationed Indian troops takes place intermittently.
