JERUSALEM, June 10 (Xinhua) -- The second "Ambassador's Cup" championship for table tennis was held on Monday in Israel's central city of Raanana.
Twelve teams with a total of more than 100 kids and teenagers attended the final table tennis competition. They were divided into three groups according to different age, separately under the age of 13, 15 and 18. Four teams in each group competed for the champion cup.
Table tennis is one of the most popular sports in China and it is also well accepted in Israel, said Zhan Yongxin, Chinese Ambassador to Israel.
Zhan added he is glad to see so many Israeli kids are involving in the table tennis competition and hailed the efforts of participation of coaches, referees and organizers for the competition.
Players attending the competition are from across the country and more than 500 players participated in the preliminary contest, said Liron Carmel, Chairman of the Israel Table Tennis Association.
With the support of Chinese embassy, they hope to hold the "Ambassador's Cup" championship every year in the future, Carmel told Xinhua.
Sports exchange is a very meaningful bridge connecting China and Israel, said Carmel, adding that currently table tennis delegation exchange is blank and they are making an effort to push forward the delegation exchange in the sector between the two nations.
