ISTANBUL, June 26 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 illegal migrants were killed and 30 others injured on Wednesday in a traffic accident in northwestern Turkey.
According to the state-run TRT broadcaster, the tragedy occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle carrying illegal migrants in the northwestern province of Edirne.
More details have not been revealed yet.
There have been similar cases. On June 17, a boat carrying 40 refugees sank near Turkey's Aegean coast and eight illegal migrants were killed while another one went missing.
Turkey has hosted a large number of Syrian refugees since the outbreak of the war in 2011. According to Turkey's Directorate General of Migration Management, there were more than 3.6 million Syrians in Turkey in 2018.
