CHANGCHUN, July 13 (Xinhua) -- The joint venture FAW-Volkswagen said its new SUV model Jetta VS5 has rolled off the production line in the city of Chengdu, Sichuan Province, Friday night.
Formerly the name of a Volkswagen sedan, now Jetta has become a sub-brand of the Sino-German joint venture passenger car manufacturer, following Volkswagen and Audi.
The new brand is designed to further meet the demands of young Chinese car buyers, according to the company.
As a single FAW-Volkswagen model, Jetta was introduced to China 28 years ago and has undergone six generations. It has been gaining popularity for its high quality and low price.
Analysts believe that the Jetta brand shows the determination of Volkswagen to explore the Chinese market with its Chinese partner, and it will help the company increase its market share in China.
Established in February 1991, FAW-Volkswagen now has five production bases around the country, with cumulative terminal sales up 2.6 percent to 2.05 million units last year.
