COLOMBO, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka has earned an estimated 787 million US dollars from its Ceylon tea exports, till July this year, official statistics showed recently.
Exports for the month of July totaled 24.8 million kg with packeted tea and tea bag exports seeing a strong growth this year, local media reports said Friday quoting the Colombo Tea Traders Association.
Sri Lanka is targeting 3.5 billion US dollars through its tea exports by 2030 and a tea production of 350 million kg, the association said here recently.
Official statistics from the government showed that Sri Lanka's tea production has remained at around 300 million kg over the past two decades, with a peak 340 million kg crop in 2013, as the country's tea growing land has remained unchanged.
Iraq continues to be the largest importer of Sri Lankan Tea, closely followed by Turkey and Russia.
Other noteworthy importers are Libya, China, and Azerbaijan. Enditem
