TALUQAN, Afghanistan, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- One dozen armed militants were killed and eight others wounded following a series of airstrikes in Takhar province overnight, an army official said Tuesday.
"Afghan Air Force raided Taliban hideouts in Yangi Qala district, Takhar province last night. As a result 12 militants were killed and eight others injured," Ghulam Hazrat Karimi, a press officer of army's Division 20 Pamir based in the region, told Xinhua.
Among the killed were Taliban local division commanders, the source said, adding details about the sorties will be shared with media later in the day.
The Taliban insurgent group, which has been waging an insurgency of more than 16 years, has yet to make comments.
